Help Downloading and Playing G103

Method 0: Streaming

We recommend this method for users who want a minimum of technical fuss and don't mind having lower picture and sound quality.

If you have a high-speed internet connection and don't wish to install any additional software on your computer, your best bet is to watch the film here at Google Video.

If you have the latest Flash plugin installed on your web browser, you can stream G103 in Flash Video format here.

If you have the QuickTime plugin installed on your web browser, you can stream G103 in QuickTime format here.

For the best quality picture and sound, we recommend downloading a high-resolution copy of the film and playing it back on your own computer rather than streaming it over your internet connection.

Method 1: VLC Media Player

If you are comfortable (and have permission to) install new software on your computer, download and install the VLC media player from here. VLC is available for free on all operating systems and is a highly regarded player for most audio and video formats.

Once VLC has been installed, play G103 by right-clicking (Windows) on the G103 file and selecting Open With > VLC Media Player.

The VLC player includes all the codecs and wizardry required to play back G103. You will not have to worry about technical issues, and the aspect ratio (width:height) will be correct. On the other hand, it's a stand-alone piece of software and, if you have them, will not respond to Windows XP Media Centre remote controls and the like.

Method 2: Install ffdshow Codec

If you would prefer to play G103 through your existing media player, you will need to install the ffdshow codec. The codec can be found here. Click on the Download link and download the latest version of the codec. Unzip the file that you download and run the executable (FFdshow-20060716-rev2546.exe at the time of writing).

You have now installed ffdshow, but the aspect ratio is likely to be incorrect, causing everyone in G103 to look very tall and thin. To fix this, open the Video Decoder Configuration Panel: if you installed under Windows, this will be under Start > Programs > ffdsow > Video Decoder Configuration. Tick the two boxes highlighted in yellow below:

Copy This!

This procedure will allow you to watch G103 through your preferred media player. In particular, G103 can be watched using Windows Media Player and Windows XP Media Centre.
